Shockwave Therapy

Relieve Pain and Accelerate Healing with Shockwave Therapy

By harnessing the non-invasive, healing power of shockwave therapy, I have found this treatment to be highly effective to treat both chronic pain and acute injuries. Shockwave therapy increases blood flow and promotes natural healing at the cellular level.

In serving the very active and athletic communities of Boulder and Longmont, CO shockwave therapy has proven to be one of the most effective technologies to assist my clients to getting out of pain and back to their active lifestyles. I have had numerous clients who have "tried everything" prior to coming to me, and have seen great results once we incorporate this technology into their treatment, whether they are looking to manage persistent pain or are  aiming for a faster recovery.

What is shockwave therapy?

Shockwave Therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) or Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT), is a treatment that uses acoustic waves to stimulate the body's natural healing processes. By increasing blood flow, breaking down calcifications, and promoting tissue regeneration, this therapy provides relief from pain and accelerates healing.

How does shockwave therapy work?

Shockwave Therapy involves the application of high-energy sound waves directly to the affected area. These waves help to

  • Increase Blood Flow: Promoting circulation and stimulating angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) in the injured tissues.

  • Stimulate Collagen Production: Essential for tissue repair and regeneration.

  • Break Down Calcifications: Dissolving calcium deposits that may be causing or contributing to your pain.

  • Release Trigger Points: Relieving muscle tension and spasms.

Benefits of shockwave therapy

  • Non-Invasive: No surgery or injections required.

  • Quick Treatment Sessions: Shockwave Therapy typically takes only 10-15 minutes per application and I often integrate it with other treatment methods during your session.

  • Minimal Recovery Time: You can usually return to your regular activities immediately.

  • Effective Pain Relief:  You'll experience long-lasting results for acute and chronic pain conditions. When other treatments haven’t provided relief, I have found that clients see great results with Shockwave Therapy.

Conditions treated with shockwave therapy

Shockwave therapy is highly effective for a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Achilles Tendinopathy

  • Tennis and Golfer’s Elbow

  • Rotator Cuff Injuries

  • Patellar Tendinopathy (Jumper’s Knee)

  • Hip Pain

  • Calcific Tendonitis

  • Chronic Muscle Pain and Trigger Points

This therapy can be beneficial for many other conditions as well, especially when combined with other modalities and techniques, making it a versatile option for pain relief and healing.

FAQs About Shockwave Therapy

What is a shockwave treatment like?

During a session, we begin by identifying the precise area of pain or injury that will be the focus of the treatment. I take you through a detailed process to pinpoint the exact location, ensuring that we target the correct spot for maximum effectiveness. The actual application of the shockwaves typically lasts around 5 minutes per area. I use a collection of 9 different heads for the device, each with unique parameters of intensity, depth, and width. This allows me to customize the treatment to your specific needs. While the sensation can vary with each head, my approach balances tolerability with effectiveness to ensure you receive the most benefit from the therapy. Patients often remark on the precision of the treatment, noting how the sound waves can reach deep into the affected area, even in challenging cases. We maintain constant communication throughout the session to ensure that the treatment is accurately targeting the area of injury. Although the treatment can be intense, this precision is key to delivering the therapeutic benefits that Shockwave Therapy offers.

How much does a shockwave therapy session cost?

You can book a single shockwave therapy for $75 or purchase a 3 pack for $195.

If we utilize shockwave during a physical therapy session it is included in your treatment price.

Does shockwave therapy actually work?

Shockwave therapy boasts a high success rate, with studies showing positive outcomes in 70-80% of patients. While the effectiveness can vary based on the condition being treated, the patient’s overall health, the clinician’s expertise, and the role it plays in a comprehensive plan of care, many of my patients experience significant pain relief and improved function after just 1-3 sessions.

What are the drawbacks of shockwave therapy?

While Shockwave Therapy is generally very safe, some patients may experience anything from mild discomfort to more pronounced pain during the treatment. My goal is always to find the right balance between effectiveness and your comfort—I never want to cause unnecessary discomfort. The application is typically brief, making even more intense sensations manageable. Some patients may experience temporary soreness afterward, often followed by significant pain relief. In rare cases, bruising or swelling can occur. I will thoroughly discuss any potential risks with you before starting treatment to ensure you're fully informed and comfortable with the process.
